The person behind Northern Nevada Genetic Counseling (NNGC) is Robbin Palmer, Ph.D. A Board Certified Genetic Counselor, Dr. Palmer has eighteen (18) years of experience in genetic counseling. Dr. Palmer received her genetic counseling training at the University of Cincinnati (UC), Ohio. Click here for information on the UC genetic counseling program. Before becoming a genetic counselor, she performed research in molecular genetics.

Because of the highly personal aspects of genetic counseling, NNGC's practice offers face-to-face counseling appointments. Genetic counseling is not provided via telephone or the web. We counsel:

Clients who are concerned that their cancer, or cancer in their families, is hereditary. (It's estimated that about 10% of all cancers are hereditary)

Individuals who have a genetic diagnosis or are concerned about a genetic diagnosis for themselves or their children.

Individuals with a personal or family history of birth defects, developmental delay, mental retardation , or genetic disorder (family history includes a previous child or fetus).

Individuals with a personal history or family history of chromosomal abnormality.

Parents, during a pregnancy that may be at risk for a genetic or hereditary condition.

Individuals or couples with two or more pregnancy losses (miscarriages, stillbirths).

Individuals or couples with infertility.

Couples in consanguineous relationships (couples who are blood relatives of each other, and plan to have children together).
